What is AVID?
AVID is a college preparatory program scheduled during the school day. This course develops strategies to ensure academic success in core studies required for entrance to four-year colleges and universities by developing college awareness and cross-curricular writing, inquiry, collaboration, and reading skills. WICOR strategies (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization and Reading) are refined as well as Cornell note taking and Socratic questioning strategies. Students set life goals, elaborate on explanation of critical thinking processes, and prepare for college entrance testing. Additionally, students focus on college entrance preparation through submitting applications, essays, and financial aid.
